Any village community thrives on local support for local causes and at Bryn Noddfa we are keen to do our part.
Upcoming events in aid of these causes include:
RNLI
The Porthdinllaen Lifeboat station houses one of the largest boats in the area, unsurprisingly perhaps when you know that this lifeboat covers the coastline from Caernarfon to Aberdaron.
The RNLI is a charity principally funded by donations and legacies. Most of the members of its lifeboat crews are unpaid volunteers. Porthdinllaen Lifeboat station is one of 238 covering the coastlines of the UK and in the Republic of Ireland. Crews rescued on average 22 people a day in 2015. The institution has saved some 140,000 lives since its foundation, at a cost of more than 600 lives lost in service.
National Eisteddfod
The National Eisteddfod of Wales is the largest music and poetry festival in Europe comprising eight days of competitions and performances. In 2023 the Eisteddfod will be held in Boduan; the first time it has been on the Peninsula since Criccieth in 1975.
Other local causes
Porthdinllaen Crew Comfort Fund
This fund exists to directly thank the volunteer crew of the Porthdinllaen Lifeboat Crew for their extraordinary work throughout the year. It is used to pay for things like their Christmas dinner and the smart jackets you see them wearing about the village. Whilst the RNLI understandably insists that the crew mustn’t ask for donations for this fund we, as independent members of the community, would like to facilitate donations to directly thank our local crew.
Cylch Meithrin Morfa Nefyn
The Cylch Meithrin provides childcare and early education in Morfa Nefyn for children from two years of age to school age. The sessions are led in Welsh to ensure that every child in the area has an opportunity to be immersed in the language, no matter what language is spoken in the home. There is an opportunity for children to socialise and learn through play and receive a warm welcome from the professional, friendly and enthusiastic staff.
The Cylch is a charity run by a dedicated committee of volunteers, including Jon, and whilst they receive funding from Gwynedd council they also rely on donations to keep the cost of a session as low as possible for parents. Parents of all 3 year olds can receive up to 10 hours for free and working parents of 3 or 4 year olds can receive additional free hours.
